  1. Jumping on the Rediscovering Thelonious bandwagon, are you? I, for one, approve: it’s an enjoyably bumptious ride to be sure.

  2. Yeah, mostly just clinging happily to the Youtube bandwagon, I think. — haha

Monk is an on-again off-again affection/affectation for me for maybe 15 years. Somewhere back there, 12 or 13 years, I got a copy of Clint Eastwood’s Straight No Chaser (VHS!) — to which I suppose any popular rediscovery happening today would be said to date back — out of a catalog. I was really enamored with the Monk image there for a while, having seen this a few times. (Some of the tape above is in that film, by the way.) But I believe I love the music more now.

Wonderful to be able to just go to Youtube (or other video sites) and get a good look at how somebody like Monk evolves over a decade — approach to the song and way with the people playing with him. I can watch these three in succession over and over. (Though am trying to resist doing that in fact.)

I’m not following any writing on the subject, but could easily be drawn in a bit. If you’ve come across anything recent, particularly worth reading, don’t hesitate to link.

Say what?
